Peace Through Sports


Launched in 2013 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations (UN) and celebrated for the first time last year, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace has proven its capacity to mobilize actors worldwide and reach out to a global audience. 

This event is vital in strengthening and promoting sport’s credibility as a tool to tackle issues in society. Every day, new stakeholders are joining this movement, with the strong belief that sport can make a difference.

The goal this year is to firmly establish 6 April as an event capable of mobilizing not just the international sports community but also the peace movement. 

To enhance the concept of peace throught sport, the Egyptian Olympic Committee celebrated the event at it headquarters with the participation of a number of national federations including Table Tennis, Archery and Modern Pentathlon. The event also saw the participation of students from the sports talented school as well as Inspire group.
Athletes Ahmed El Namr (Archery), Aya Madanye and Haydy Adel (Modern Pentathlon), Mohamed El Saharty (Gymnastics), and the Egyptian national archery team were part of the event. They spoke to the participants about their sports and how it contributed to their development and they also showcased their sports.

White T-shirts were the dress code and white cards were used to highlight the concept of peace.
