All Arab Games

The idea of the Arab Games was born on 27 March 1947.
Mr. Abd ElRahman Azzam, Arab League Secretary General, presented a proposal for approval for holding an Arab Games to take place yearly among the Arab countries. The memorandum was as follows:

"There is no doubt that sport is the most supreme and honorable means to connect youth in Arab countries and enable them to build the future of the Arab nations by their healthy bodies and connect them by the virtues and social ties and to remove obstacles among them to achieve the goals of the Arab League.

Some Arab teams used to exchange visits in the different sport matches. Nowadays, the Arab youth is eager to gather all their activities in organized games for the members of the Arab countries in the Arab League to participate in. The Arab games take place yearly in one of the Arab countries. They trend to the Arab League to achieve their goals. There is no doubt that gathering the Arab youth every year is the best way for acquaintance, harmony and invitation to the spiritual unity in accordance with the second article of the Arab League charter ".

In 1953, Eng. Ahmed El Demerdash Touny, IOC member, renewed the idea and communicated with the different Arab countries, who welcomed the idea.

On 9 April 1953, the idea was presented to the Arab League Council who  approved and entrusted Egypt with organizing the 1st Arab Games.
