All African Games

Egypt was the first country to request organizing regional games where African youth will come together and participate under one roof in multidisciplinary sports competitions.  These games were named the All Africa Games. The IOC agreed and entrusted Egypt with the organization of the first edition in Alexandria in 1927. However, the games were postponed to be held in 1929 in order to complete the necessary sport facilities and venues.

Egypt constructed Alexandria sport stadium specifically for these games and spent a long time for the preparation and organization. Invitations were sent to the African countries involved, and most of them agreed to participate in the games. The commemorative medals of the 1st All African Games were made. The African Continent appeared on one side of the medal and a sportsman holding an olive branch appeared on the other side. Nonetheless. Imperialistic countries did their best and they managed to obstruct the meeting of the African youth in one country and the games were canceled.

However, after 36 years, this goal was achieved. The African Conference, that was held in Brazzaville - Congo on January 1962, decided to hold the 1st All Africa Games in Brazzaville. The Organizing Committee of Brazzaville requested the support of Egypt to organize and manage the games. At last 28 African countries and 2500 athletes participated in the 1st edition of the All African Games. Egypt was the first African country to win the All Africa Games.
